What is Heart Failure (CHF)?

Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, is a condition in which the heart is not able to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. This can lead to a build-up of fluid in the body, causing symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet.

Heart failure can be caused by a variety of factors, including coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, heart valve problems, and cardiomyopathy (a condition in which the heart muscle becomes weakened or enlarged). It can also be caused by conditions that damage the heart, such as a heart attack or viral infection.

Heart failure is a serious condition that requires medical attention. Treatment for heart failure may include medications to improve heart function and reduce fluid buildup, as well as lifestyle changes, such as dietary changes and an exercise program. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary.

It is important to take steps to reduce the risk of heart failure, such as by maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, not smoking, and managing conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
