What are different kinds of Cardiac Testing available at Pacific Heart?

At Pacific Heart & Vascular, we have multiple modalities of cardiac testing to diagnose issues with the heart. Many are available directly on site.

There are several tests that can be used to diagnose or evaluate heart conditions. Some common heart tests include:

  1. Electrocardiogram (ECG): An ECG is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. It is typically performed using small sensors called electrodes that are placed on the chest, arms, and legs.

  2. Echocardiogram: An echocardiogram is a test that uses sound waves to create images of the heart. The test can be used to assess the size and function of the heart, as well as the presence of any abnormalities or damage.

  3. Cardiac catheterization: Cardiac catheterization is a procedure in which a thin, flexible tube called a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel, usually in the groin, arm, or neck. The catheter is then guided to the heart, where it can be used to measure pressure and blood flow, as well as to perform procedures such as angioplasty or stenting.

  4. Stress test: A stress test is a test that assesses how the heart responds to physical activity. The test is typically performed on a treadmill or stationary bike, and involves increasing the intensity of the exercise until the heart is working at a moderate to high level. An ECG is typically performed during the test to monitor the heart's electrical activity.

  5. Cardiac CT scan: A cardiac CT scan is a test that uses X-rays and a computer to create detailed images of the heart and blood vessels. The test can be used to assess the presence and severity of coronary artery disease, as well as the presence of any abnormalities or damage to the heart.

It is important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions and to inform them of any symptoms you are experiencing when undergoing a heart test.
